Poppy Noy Counselling

A warm welcome

Sometimes life can feel overwhelming, at a stand still, or the effects of unresolved trauma are beginning to show. You might be experiencing anxiety, low mood, relying on unhealthy coping mechanisms, or going through a period of change that’s hard to manage on your own. Whatever has brought you here, I’m really glad you’ve found your way.

My name is Poppy, and I am a qualified Psychodynamic counsellor based in Colchester, Essex. My training specialised in working with young adults and children, offering a calm, supportive space where you can talk things through, explore what’s going on under the surface, and begin to understand yourself more fully.

Therapy is a space where you don’t have to have all the answers, or even know the questions. You don’t have to be in crisis to come to counselling, it may just be that you feel ready for something to change.

Together, we’ll take time to explore your story, understand what’s shaping your current struggles, and begin to imagine a different way forward- one that feels more hopeful and true to you.

I offer sessions in person in Colchester, as well as online. Feel free to have a look around the site, and if it feels like we might be a good fit, I’d love to hear from you.

About

Hello, I’m Poppy Noy (MBACP), a psychodynamic counsellor with an MA in Psychodynamic Counselling. I work mainly with children and young adults, both in person in Colchester, Essex and online across the UK.

At the heart of my practice is a deep respect for each person’s unique experience of the world. No two people are the same, and I believe that therapy should honour that individuality. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, lost, or simply unsure of your next steps, I offer a calm, curious space where we can explore what’s going on together and gently begin to untangle it.

My approach is thoughtful and reflective. I’ll always work at your pace, offering gentle challenge where it feels helpful, and often using creative metaphor to bring deeper understanding to your inner world. I see therapy as a space not just for healing, but for growth, where you can connect more fully with who you are, and begin to imagine a more hopeful way forward.

Growing up, I was closely aware of the mental health challenges faced by people I loved- including addiction, anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder. Even in their hardest moments, I could still see the warmth, creativity, and uniqueness that made them who they were when the clouds lifted. That experience has shaped my belief that, no matter what someone has been through, everyone deserves the chance to heal and to live a life that feels calmer, fuller, and more connected.

Outside of my work, I find peace and inspiration in the natural world. I love being outdoors, and I see our connection to nature as something that can support well-being in subtle but profound ways.

If you're considering therapy, or just want to find out more, you're very welcome to get in touch.

Working with younger clients

Working with the psychodynamic model with younger people is a great way to help them explore thoughts and feelings that can sometimes feel too big, confusing, or difficult to put into words. Children often express themselves more freely through play, stories, and symbols. In the therapy room, these become powerful tools for understanding what might be going on beneath the surface.

Psychodynamic therapy with children gently explores how early relationships and experiences might be shaping their current struggles - whether that’s anxiety, low mood, behavioural challenges, or difficulty at school or home. I offer a calm, consistent space where children can feel safe to be themselves, build trust, and begin to make sense of their inner world at their own pace.

The therapy room is equipped with lots of different games and activities and is an informal space where I encourage clients to make use of the space, move around, sit however feels comfy, help themselves to fidgets and generally make themselves at home.
